Panama Environment

Panama is a country full of natural beauty and much of it is made up of mountains and rainforest. The Panama Environment is very well preserved compared to many other countries, and there are many National Parks in Panama to protect its landscape and wildlife.
Mostly, the Panama Environment is forest, mountains and lakes. The mountains make up a lot of the country’s centre and are called the Cordillera Central. Some of the mountains and forests that surround them are very hard to get into, and so it is best to stick to pre-planned paths and use guides when visiting any forested areas.
Panama’s rainforests contain a very diverse wildlife, and they cover nearly 60% of the country. There are excursions available into the forests for visitors to enjoy the natural scenery and also to watch the wildlife of Central America, including Capuchin monkeys, raccoons and parrots.
The Panama Environment is a very important part of the country, and is one of the main reasons for increasing tourism to Panama. There are many rivers and lakes in the country, and some of the rivers are used for cruises and are sometimes the only way into forested areas.
The coast is a beautiful part of Panama, and also has much wildlife that is protected, including turtles. Eco-tourism is increasing here, especially along the coast working with sea turtles. There is an island, called Coiba Island that is a National Park, just off the shore of Panama in the Pacific Ocean which was created to help protect the marine life on and around the island, including the nearby coral reef.
